Missouri Lit Orange During Work Zone Safety Week

From the Ferris wheel at Six Flags in St. Louis to the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, landmarks and MoDOT buildings around the state were lit orange last week from April 2-6 in recognition of National Work Zone Awareness Week, which marks the start of another big season of highway construction. The message to motorists was clear, "Drive Smart to Stay Alive" and "Slow Down in Work Zones - It's the Law." Orange

You’re Invited… to the 2007 Earth Day Celebration!

Anyone who supports making Missouri a litter-free state is invited to attend the Earth Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, April 20, at the State Capitol in Jefferson City. Primary Safety Belt Bill In Its Second Inning in the House
On April 4, Rep. Neal St. Onge (R-Ellington) presented House Bill 90 to the House Chamber for full debate and consideration. In his comments, the representative stated that 68 percent of people killed in traffic crashes were not buckled up. A primary enforcement law will save lives at no cost to the state. After over two hours of debate on a proposed amendment, House leadership laid the bill over for further debate at a later date, and the bill moves to the third inning of the game. Primary

Work Zone Safety Funded in the Transportation Program

The department’s five-year construction program, called the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, or STIP, is providing funds for city, county and state law enforcement officers to monitor work zones. Work Zone Safety

Improving Work Zones

With more than 1,000 work zones statewide again this year, MoDOT continues to improve practices and materials for better work zones. New safety vests, sign covers and flagger assistance devices will improve work zone safety and increase productivity. Better Zones

More than 1,000 active work zones are planned this year on Missouri highways. To keep these work zones safe, MoDOT wants travelers to plan their route by using the online Work Zone Locator Map at www.modot.org/workzonemap.
