Traffic Signals Without Power Should Be Treated As Four-way Stops
MoDOT Crews Continue Battling Winter Storms

JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Transportation is advising motorists to treat any traffic signal that is dark and without power as a four-way stop.  Due to widespread power outages caused by the winter storm, a large number of traffic signals do not have power and could present a hazardous situation if motorists approaching a wet or icy intersection do not realize they need to stop.

All drivers should stop at a four-way stop when they approach the intersection, and should then proceed through the intersection in the order in which they arrived.

MoDOT crews were out all weekend fighting winter storms, and will continue to work around the clock for the next several days as additional severe weather is forecast.  The department urges all motorists to drive cautiously in inclement weather. Give snowplows and salt trucks plenty of room to work. Always buckle up, and remember, when driving in winter, Ice and Snow, Take It Slow.

To check travel conditions before you leave the house, check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at modot.org.  The map shows up-to-the-minute road conditions for major Missouri highways. Conditions are color-coded to give visitors the information they need at a glance. Green means clear, blue is partly covered, purple is covered and a red snowflake means the road is impassable.

MoDOT's toll-free customer information line is also staffed around the clock at 888-ASK MODOT.  Recorded road-condition information is available at (800) 222-6400.
