Republic: Street and Business Approaches
To Be Paved During Week of October 25

MoDOT, District 8, Springfield -- Drivers should be alert for slowdowns along U.S. 60/Route 413 in Republic during the week of October 25 when paving crews are scheduled to work at city street approaches and business entrances, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews plan to pave the approaches to the highway during daytime hours.

This work may require half a business entrance to be blocked and one-lane traffic at city street approaches.

Drivers on U.S. 60/Route 413 should be prepared for vehicles slowing down on the highway and turning slowly into driveways and side streets.

Other work planned during the week, although weather may cause delays or changes:

* Concrete to be poured for new islands at the Hines and Elm street intersections with U.S. 60/Route 413. Traffic will be moved away from where the work is taking place.

* Paving on U.S. 60/Route 413. Traffic will be shifted away from where crews are set up.

* Installing street lights, building concrete sidewalks and laying sod along U.S. 60/Route 413. This work at various locations along U.S. 60/Route 413 will take place AWAY from traffic.

No night work is planned for the week.

Week of November 1
Crews are scheduled to continue paving U.S. 60/Route 413. Once the paving is complete, new pavement stripes will be painted on the highway.

During the paving and striping work, traffic will be shifted away from where crews are set up.

Other work planned will take place AWAY from traffic. Sidewalks will be built and street lights installed.

Rain will cause delays in the project.

Background
The prime contractor on the $6.1-million widening project along U.S.60/Route 413 in Republic is Journagan Construction of Springfield. Some sewer and water line work is being done by the City of Republic, a partner with MoDOT on the project.

The project involves adding a lane in each direction and rebuilding city street approaches and driveway entrances between Hines Street and West Avenue, with work continuing into the fall.
