How long will it take to design the Hannibal Expressway?

The design process for the Route 61 expressway of Hannibal must take place before construction can begin, and a commitment to fund that process is needed before design work can start.  However, once funding is committed, surveryors will begin the job of verifying field data and engineeers will begin design, determining access points, establishing right of way limits, and developing the plans and specifications needed for construction.  It will be several years before exact property impacts are known.

The Hannibal Expressway was presented as one of the major priority projects for the Northeast District at the statewide major investment priorities meeting in November 2007.  Unfortunately, it was not identified as a statewide priority and no funding has been set aside for design, right of way acquisition or construction.  Therefore, MoDOT will not move forward on any of these processes at this time.
