Impaired driving is one of America's deadliest crimes. Despite all the attention, resources, and public policies that have been directed toward removing the impaired driver from behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, alcohol contributed to one-fourth of the fatal traffic crashes in Missouri in 2009. A total of 280 people were killed and 1,140 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver.
