SIKESTON-A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of improvements to Route D (formerly County Road 337) was held at the Pemiscot County Port Authority in Caruthersville, Mo., on Friday, October 29 at 1 p.m.
Speakers included:
Christopher S. Bond, United States Senate
Jo Ann Emerson, United States House of Representatives
Terry Swinger, Missouri House of Representatives, District 162
Duane Michie, Former Missouri Highways and Transportation Commissioner
Clyde Southern, Pemiscot County Port Authority Advocate
Cheryl Ball, Assistant to the District Engineer, MoDOT
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a contract in October 2009. The $1,940,628 contract was awarded to G & M Concrete & Asphalt Co., Inc., Troy, Mo.
The project included widening and resurfacing from Route 84 to Route U, near the City of Caruthersville. Once work to County Road 337 was completed, this section of the roadway became a portion of Route D and is now included in the state highway system.
Work began in spring 2010 with the road being closed to traffic as improvements progressed.
"Now that the project is complete, it has greatly improved access to the Pemiscot County Port Authority," said Project Manager Eric Krapf.
