Interstate 55
What's the problem? A new Holcim plant, North America's largest cement manufacturing plant, is being constructed in Ste. Genevieve/Jefferson Counties. The additional traffic will lead to capacity issues.
What's the solution? MoDOT has planned three phases of a project to address the additional traffic and implants the plant will have on the transporation system.
- Route 61 will undergo concrete resurfacing from Exit 170 south to Route OO. Bids are expected to be accepted this December
with work beginning next spring if awarded.
- Improvements are also planned to Route TT to provide access
to the interstate. Bids are anticipated next summer.
- Improved alignment as well as widening and resurfacing are being planned for Route OO from I-55 to Route 61. Bids could be accepted in fall 2008 with construction taking place during the summer of 2009.
What's happening now? MoDOT is working on design plans and with the Federal Highway Administration on additional access.
