Route 61 Establishment Creek Bridge Replacement
What’s the problem?
A bridge on Route 61 located a mile south of Route Y is narrow, low and old.
What’s the solution?
MoDOT plans to replace the bridge and close the road during construction. MoDOT can get a much better price by closing the road, saving approximately a half million dollars. There is not a suitable location to use a temporary bridge near the project on Route 61. The additional cost of a temporary bridge on Jersey Lane south of Bloomsdale was estimated at $250,000. Closing the road will reduce the amount of time it takes to construct the new bridge because the contractor can immediately begin work without building temporary traffic bypasses, complete the project, and lessen the length of the impact to motorists. Relocating the road was also investigated with significant increase in costs, time, and greater impacts to cultural and environmental resources as well as adjacent property owners.
Where does it stand now?
MoDOT is gathering input on the project at this evening’s public hearing.
